Berry Gordy Jr. announced on Tuesday that he’s “looking for a super-talented African-American young man” to play all these characters in his upcoming Broadway production. He launched an audition website to help find a boy between the ages of 8 and 11 who can act, dance and also sing with “a phenomenal high tenor singing voice” who can “move and sound like Michael Jackson in his Jackson 5 days.” “I’m not looking for imitators,” Gordy says in a video. “What I’m looking for is people that are smart and can be themselves in the role. He has to be extremely talented, plus he has to give me the same chills that I got when I saw Michael Jackson in the first place.” The show is conducting auditions via YouTube, where submitters can post themselves on video performing one of three songs: The Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back” or “I’ll Be There,” or the Miracles’ “Who’s Lovin’ You.” Full audition details can be found here: www.MotownTheMusical.com/casting The "Motown" musical is expected to open on Broadway (New York, USA) next spring.
